Lesson 1.4 - Why Surf
The joy of riding a wave can never really be fully explained, as the now famous saying illustrates; 'only a surfer knows the feeling' Surfing is a great way to get and stay physically, mentally and spiritually fit as it helps your agility, muscle endurance and your balance. Physical exercise is also well known to reduce stress and prevent medical issues when older. Surfing can be a solitary pastime or a social event shared with friends, a job, a sport, and a passion. It can be the catalyst for exploration or simply a trip to the beach after work. It can be what ever you want it to be. For many surfers the importance of being close to the waves and having time to go surfing forms the basis of life decisions like; where do I live, and what do I do for a living. Bruce Brown, a surfing cinematographer once said; 'People in the movie business would tell me, if I wanted to be successful in the motion picture industry, I would have to move to Hollywood. I said I would rather be a milkman at the beach than live in Hollywood.' Site design for A1Surf © 2008
